====================================================
May 16th, 2008 - The
food is GREAT, the venue is FANTASTIC and everything
(hotel, lake and dinner joint) are all right
together! RayM and I
arrived around 6pm, checked into the
hotel and then headed over to Phil's Marina Café for
dinner with Team Katrina. We ate
out side on a balcony overlooking a gorgeous harbor
and watching a giant RED sun set in the distance.
We were soon joined by fellow Pirates Budman
and Yankee Kern who both flew into the New
Orleans airport late this afternoon.
After dinner we followed Hew, CJ, and Dave to
the pond to look things over.
The place seems ideal for R/C sailing and we
were very impressed with the two launching docks
that the Team K boys had installed on the bank.
Earlier today a Norther passed through
dropping 5 inches of rain on the area.
Although muddy from all the rain our hosts
had been busy spreading hay over the major traffic
areas and the plan was to spread more tomorrow if
needed. The course looks
great with no obstructions to create turbulence.
We plan to set-up our tents tomorrow on a
road which runs right next to the South-side of the
pond. This road is built atop a
berm and should provide us an excellent view of the
race course. The
pirates plan to gather tomorrow morning at
7:45am
for breakfast and to plan our invasion/ terror
strategies....
Skippers meeting is at 10am and racing
should start 15 to 20 minutes later.
More information and photo's tomorrow
night!!!! Eric Gregory
