Gold &
Silver Fleet Defending Champions Take Honors Again!
On what was
supposed be a day of blowing winds because of a on coming weather system
passing through San Antonio, turned out being a test of patience and a
bit of luck for Skippers. Maybe it was the jinx of not putting up the
Patio shade cover in fear of the winds, but I can assure you that next
time we won't fall for a Texas Weatherman forecast!
For the 3rd year in
a row we had Mitch Martin, our Georgetown,TX WSC member, come down and
perform RD service for us. He had an extremely hard time at times
determining which mark should even be the 1st weather mark. Sometimes
not even picking it till the 1 minute countdown time on a 2 minute
countdown. We as skippers knew we were going to go away from the barge,
we just didn't know what direction! We applaud Mitch and Thanks him for
a job well done. This year didn't see the numbers of boats up like in
years past, We only had 10 boats competing this year. But we still
wanted to keep our traditional Gold/Silver - One big start no matter how
many boats show up format to make it exciting. Even given the light
conditions we still managed to get off 8 races, given each skipper 2
throwouts. As you can see in the results at one point Eric Gregory was
on a roll with 4 - 1st places in a row. by the time the afternoon break
came it seem to be his regatta to lose. In Silver Fleet Ray Mireles
sailed a very consistent regatta with 1st time OD regatta entrant Dave
Froberg, who pleaded with me to create a copper or lead Fleet just for
him. And just like in Gold Fleet final results, 1st through 3rd place
only separated by 1 point each!!! And to complete our 2009
Three-Peat performance we can't forget about the coveted "Special
Finisher - Never Say Die!" award for the highest point with all races
finished went to Randy Rimmer for the 2nd year in a row.
Of course given the
light winds, it doesn't stop us at Woodlawn from having a fun
time....even it's just eating. We seem to never be short in the food
category of even a one-day Regatta. Special Thanks go out again the Tony
Seta for doing the cooking duties, Cristina and MamaSeta also doing the
cooking, with help from Anna(Ray Mireles's friend) doing club set-up.
Hope to see the
regulars that didn't make the show this year,(Lindeman, Budman, Conniger,
Manning, and Rivera), back out at the lake for next year at the 14th
Annual OD 39 Alamo Classic Regatta!!!
Good Winds (maybe
next year!)
